VR For Good

Our mission is to highlight the challenges facing the Umfolozi River, representing a broader concern for rivers worldwide. We’re bringing this VR experience to a global audience, aiming to foster awareness and inspire protective measures for our vital freshwater resources.

Our Vision

Join us in a narrative that reveals how humanity has drifted away from nature. Rediscover the ancient traditions and beliefs that once defined our relationship with the earth, and understand the urgency in preserving our natural and cultural heritage before it’s too late.

Trailer

Get an early glimpse of “Umfula VR” with our preliminary trailer, created before the full filming and production began. This teaser gives a hint of what the complete film will encompass, but keep in mind, the full documentary offers much more. It’s enriched with detailed, informative content and includes personal stories from those who live along the Umfolozi River. This trailer showcases a blend of the river’s breathtaking landscapes, cultural significance, and the impacts of human activity. It’s a brief journey through the eyes of those who call the riverbanks home, setting the stage for a deeper exploration in the full VR experience. Expect a more comprehensive and immersive story in the full-length film, where the voices of the river and its people take center stage

UmfulaVR community events Tour

The Umfula VR community events have been a resounding success, bringing together local communities along the Umfolozi River to experience the beauty and importance of their natural surroundings. These events, made possible through the support of the Presidential Employment Stimulus Package (PESP) and The National Film and Video Foundation, have not only raised awareness about the need to protect the Umfolozi River and our freshwater sources but have also created meaningful job opportunities for over 50 local residents. Through the immersive power of VR technology, attendees have been transported to the heart of the river, gaining a deeper understanding of its ecological significance and the threats it faces. We are incredibly grateful to our funders and sponsors for their support, and to the film creators and team leads who have worked tirelessly to make these events possible.
